Our Solution

Of our three solutions, we found, through the decision matrix, that the solar powered propeller was the best solution to stop the spread of dengue in Yemen. In order for mosquitoes to reproduce they need stagnant water to lay their eggs to complete the reproduction cycle. Our solution would be able to produce a constant current in the water kept at home for personal use. The current would not allow the mosquitoes to lay their eggs in the water which would ultimately decrease the mosquito population and making water a bit more safe for consumption because there won’t be any larvae in the water.

Through our decision matrix we concluded that the solar powered propeller was the most effective solution. Our solar powered propeller contains a recharchargable waterproof battery that needs to be charged for approximately four to six hours which would allow the propeller to run for six to eight hours without sunlight. The solar panels would be amorphous silicon. The solar powered propeller is cost effective as the solar panel and battery are approximately one dollar each, with other items used to make the propeller are of minimal cost.
